After weeks of speculation, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is set to divorce her husband of 18 months, Jean-Bernard…

The Girls Aloud star has begun formal legal proceedings by filing paperwork which cite irreconcilable differences between the pair.

It is believed Cheryl split from her husband five months ago.

An insider has said:

In the end Cheryl realised she had married too soon and had been swept away by a bit of a whirlwind romance. Over time it became clear to each of them that they were very different people and from very different worlds. They are now focusing on making sure they stay friends. The divorce is amicable and they have both said they will always be there for each other.

The pair were last seen together in October, at a birthday bash for Ant and Dec. However, it’s believed the pair had broken up two months before this, but were together to show they were still friends.

Cheryl and Jean married in July 2014. It was all rather sudden, and just like the divorce, there was a lot of speculation.

The source continued to say:

They actually split up in August. They are still very good friends but are now getting a divorce. By the time of Ant and Dec’s party they were just close friends who still enjoy spending time together. They were having a great time with their friends but there was nothing intimate by that stage. In the end they found they got on well but in reality probably got married too soon. But JB has said he’ll always be there to support her when she needs him and he’s a very honourable guy.

Jean has officially moved out of their London home that they shared. He is spending most of his time in the United States. Rumours of the break up began when Jean didn’t turn up for filming of The X Factor.

Cheryl has put on a brave face on social media, with posts saying she was about to start work on new solo music.

We’ll let you know more when this story develops.
